B5one cannot assume responsibility for any damage, injury, dismemberment or death, as a result of you the reader, following our instructions. We supply this information freely, for those interested in knowing what is involved with such modifications. If you find you would like to perform a similar modification to your vehicle, we urge you to first seek the advice of a qualified mechanic prior to undertaking any of the work. Some work will require physical strength that may be beyond your ability to perform. OK, here is a VERY simple mod, and cheap as heck, too! You can do it quickly, but taking a little time is the best bet. The whole thing will cost $15 with shipping, or $20 if you don't have scissors or a sharpie...heck, call it $35 if you need a blow dryer and rubbing alcohol.
Parts you will need: The chrome trim comes in a roll of 20', and you want the 1/4". It's about $10, plus shipping. I think they have it at PepBoys, but it's hit or miss there, so I got it from Sportwing. It has 3M tape on the back, so it's all quality. To prep, take the alcohol, and wet a paper towel. Get into the beltline (the 'gap' between the upper and lower parts of the door and dash that runs just under the passenger airbag, and over the DIN). You'd be surprised how much gunk gets in there (like Armorall) that prevents proper adhesion. Next, take the roll of chrome, and run it along a section for length. A crayon or grease pencil can be used to mark the length. Also, if you're cuttin along the back end of a door, note the angle of the door, too, so you can match that. Once you cut the lengths, take your Sharpie (or other black marker), and color the white plastic ends black so they don't stand out. Do this for all sections. The piece that goes on the left of the steering wheel will have more white visible, just under the dash. Just color this in. You'll see what I mean when you do it. Then, you need to start heating things up. Take the blow dryer, and heat both the beltline gap, and the chrome strip (if you hold the strip by the gap, you can heat them together). Get the surfaces nice and hot. Now, quickly, take off the red plastic on the 3M tape, and carefully line up one end. Fit carefully and slowly as you go along the gap, filling it straight and evenly with the chrome. Once it's on, get your blow dryer, and heat the thing again, while pushing it against the door to ensure proper adhesion. Do this for all doors, and the dash. Voila, you're done! W8 style at 1.8T price!
