SFLB5 (Larry) First, and foremost, I want to thank Bryan and the members of B5one for this honor. When Bryan emailed me the news, I thought he was playing an early April Fool's joke. The car is so far from being finished, that I truly do not understand it being chosen.
Growing up in Texas, my only exposure to VW's was an old "Super Beetle" that one of the girls in my high school had. That is until about four years ago when I met my wife. Not only was she driving a Dub, her father had a garage full. After having driven big, American V8 trucks and muscle cars (GTO, etc) my entire life, I was blown away by the performance, feel, and looks of these great cars. As the end of my lease on my huge Chevy Suburban drew near, and gas inched closer and closer to $2.00 a gallon, I began my search for my next ride.
After many test drives on nearly every mid-sized four door sedan on the market, we chose my 2002 Passat GLS. I have never enjoyed a single decision so much. Shortly after taking delivery, I attended the South Florida VW/Audi GTG #10 with my now father in law, and the Mod Bug took over. At that time, I had only tinted the windows. Since then, much to the dismay of my banker and my wife, we have done the following:
Mods Suspension/Brakes/Performance
Exterior
Lighting & ICE
Interior
Future plans include more performance work, along with the addition of the balance of the Votex body kit.
From the early days of this site, to the help of so many of you in establishing the sister site for B5one covering the Southeast, I can truly say I could never have imagined just purchasing one car to ever open up so many doors, and help form so many new friendships. Again, I thank you for this honor.
