vwb5t (Matt) It all started the summer of 2006. I had a modded MK3 Jetta and the transmission let go leaving me without a car. So I drove my dad's 95 Wrangler while looking for another Jetta, but couldn't find one I liked and the search continued. Then one day, my mom said "hey your aunt is trading in her VW...why not see if you like it; they'll sell it to you for the trade-in value". That's when I first learned about the Passat. My mom brought it home one day for me to test drive - there it was - a 2000 1.8T 5-speed Black Magic Passat; sun roof, monsoon stereo, 100k miles and bone stock. It was dirty as heck. I don't think she washed it or vacuumed it in the 6 years she owned it. Took it for a test drive and that's when I fell in love - I bought it that weekend. Now this was bought as my "grown up" car, since I already did the modded MK3 thing... well, that was kind of true - things started out simple. I went to Waterfest and got it chipped. That almost ended my modding due to one fateful day when the ECU crapped out on me. Several hundred dollars later and a sour taste in my mouth, I had sworn off engine mods. Next was rims and suspension (KW V2 coils to be exact), but I still missed that chipped feeling, so I bought a VAGCOM and an MBC. I was determined to get the power back without a chip. I tinkered with that for several months. I got good results and ran at 13 PSI with no issues at all. Once I got tired of that, I bought a spare ECU and sent it into APR with my warranty card and got my chip back - I was in business again. Then one fateful day I was cruising Passatworld when I get a random PM from Jaythesnork asking me if I was going to snorkfest in Waterford CT. Little did I know what this would turn into, so I said why not...it might be fun to meet some Passat guys. Well, that day was the beginning of an era for me cause I meet Scirocco78 (Bill) and went for a ride in his autocross beast, that was when I fell in love again. When I got back I knew I had to have that suspension, but the problem was it was a one off - the only one made at the time by Shine Racing. Well, Bill told me to come to the auto-x one day and go for a real spin in the car with him on the track. After that day I was in heaven and the auto-x bug bit me, I would be back to do this again in my car. Well Bill decided to get a Miata to race in and I just about bought everything but his Passat from him. It was over - the Passat turned into a full blown autocross car and its daily duties were over, so I said. I still drive it every chance I get cause it's just too much fun. Since then, the car has gone through many mods, and it is still not done, but through it all my Passat has not objected at all to the beatings it gets all summer long. I wanna first thank Bryan for choosing me as B5one for April...thanks again man! Also wanna thank Jay for all his help and for introducing me to Bill; Bill for emptying my wallet and teaching me how to beat STIs; I also would like to thank Keith, Mike V, Scott, JP, Andrew, Marc (autoxtrem on PW) for the new found power; my good friend Dan for all his help with my crazy and wacked out ideas....and for the long hours in his garage...and last my girlfriend Amy, without her luv of dubs I couldn't have done it, thanks dear for all the support I love you. There are probably others, but I have CRS syndrome so sorry I missed you. And last if anyone ever wants to go for a ride or even drive this thing, don't be afraid to ask - I am more than willing to let you drive it. Mods Engine:
