My passion for VW started a long time ago when I bought my first car, a VW GOL( like a fox but hatchback) back in Brazil in 1996 when i turned 18, it's kind of crazy but we get our driver's license at 18 but we can drink at 16 (actually legal age is 18 but nobody really cares).
That car had a solid engine, and an awesome look, I enjoyed that car really much untill i got rear ended and my baby got destroyed.
The passion for cars it's really big in Brazil cause, it's not really easy to buy a car downthere, we don't have lots of money and gas prices are way too high, so if you take care of your car, people recognize that, and you get a lot of compliments.
Then when I moved to the sates I was like damn, nobody really cares about cars up here. I see Audi's, Merecedes, BMW's and I stare at them, but nobody else does, then I figured that with much more consumer power than people from my homeland, having a nice car it's easy so that's the reason why, in order to stand out from the crowd you have to buy a super sport or a very expensive car right? Wrong. European cars have that nice aggressive design that we love so if you can't afford a Ferrari or Lamborghini you can go with a nice affordable European car, customize it and boom its a head turner.
When I bought my Passat, all my friends at work said the passat was a girly car or a old lady's car or something, but I could see, thanks to B5one and other online B5 clubs the true potential of that German beauty.
When the mods started to appeared, i started to get compliments like nice rims or nice Audi. I remember when I when out for dinner at Newbury St with my girlfriend and the vallet guy came to me and said " What Audi is that?" He looked from the front and with the badgeless grille and Hella HID look alike he could not tell it was a VW, that's was when my girlfriend notice what I was doing to the car and said, "WOW, it does look like an Audi huh, Did you change anything on this car?".
I spent a lot of nights at my workplace doing my mods myself and I don't regret any second I spent with this car cause even though it's not finished yet, I'm proud of my custom work and I really enjoy driving my Passat around and turn some heads. I can almost hear the two kids on the corner saying, "Dude look at that, nice, What car is that?" Then I hit the gas, change gears and woooooshhhh, they get all excited about the car.
The Blow off valve is awesome, Since i was a little kid I always wanted a turbocharged car and to me a turbocharged car gotta have a Blow off valve, I know about the recircurlation problems and such, but i got this nice adjustable valve that you can recirculate part of the air so no big deal. My friends at work? Now they all love my car, they keep saying that I did an amazing job and at least two of them are considering having a passat, when they change cars.
I'd like to thank everybody that help me with information and tips and everybody that posted stuff online so I could turn my "girly" car in what it is today. I'm really honored to be the featured B5 and more than a car Enthusiast web site, the B5one is a community where I made friends ( real and virtual ones) and found nice people that share the same interest. "A passion for nice cars." Mods
