Since I was kid, I always loved hanging out with people washing or doing something to their cars. In Brazil the driving age is 18 so the anticipation of having my own car built up with the passion. In 2000, I visited the Car Show at the Bay Side Expo Center here in Boston and I saw the TT for the first time. I don't know if it was the lines of the car or the beautiful sporty race inspired interior but I fell in love instantly. I knew that one day I would have to own of these puppies. I was not a VAG fan but instinctively 6 of the 11 cars I owned in my life were either a Volkswagen or Audi. Anyway, I could never afford a $40k car, plus I knew that I would spend money modifying it, but I never gave up, and one day while browsing Craigslist, I saw a silver 2001 225 advertised for 10,700 and located, and only a couple of miles from my house. I called the guy and He explained that the car had some little problems and it was being sold as is, when I got there he started the list and explained why a 17 K car was priced at 10,500.
As he spoke, I thought to myself, "It needs a timing belt kit replacement, it would run you around a thousand dollars," and I think, "$300 from ECS and I can do it myself." The list goes on and except by the paint job (there was no body damaged but the paint was pretty chipped and scuffed) everything else would cost me no more than $1000 in pats, I didn't care much, the discount was amazing the fresh paint would make the car look brand new. I called my friend Josh to ask him how much he would charge to repaint the car, so I take the car for a test drive—I love the thing. Next thing you know, my TT project started and I enjoyed every minute of working on this car from taking the bumpers off to painting the calipers, and the time chatting with my buddy while the car sat in the paint booth between coats of paint.
I didn't build this car for track use or to be a Hoda Civic killer monster, but the Chip and Modshack intake give me around 260 HP at the crank which, for a Quattro TT, is plenty of power. After the car was done and up and running, I installed a computer in it which to me is one of the coolest toys I ever had, the carputer sits where the rear seats used to be and runs a software called RoadRunner with a Digital FX skin. the software controls everything in a friendly way so you can get videos, music, phone dialing, GPS and more, even weather for up to 5 locations can be obtained with a touch of a finger as well as cheapest gas stations around with your AIP code, web browsing, camera, games and much more.
I just wasnt to say thank you to JohnWPB and Wagner - Guino at www.mp3car.com,and to my friend Josh at USCuztoms (gave me big discount on my paint job), B5one for the support and ideas, VWvortex and Audiworld for the help, my friend Serge that helped me with the timing belt work (trust me you need a buddy for this job) and for all the companies that got me a deal on parts so I could do this without empting my wallet.
