This is quite an honor. I've been browsing these pages for some time and never thought that my ride would make oneB5 status.
Back in June 03 my 92 Accord hit the 150k mile mark and I was entertaining a new ride. My goal was to pick up a nice four door sports sedan with leather and a v6 engine. I've always liked the style of the Passat but never really thought about owning one. I drove someone's 98 1.8t tip when it first came out and enjoyed the thoughtful layout and driving dynamics. While surfing a dealer website I tripped over a fully loaded 2001 Passat GLX 5-speed. The manual transmission piqued my interest because more and more v6 sedans are equipped with auto only. I test drove the GLX and was pleasantly surprised by the smoothness and acceleration of the 30v v6 engine. Needless to say two hours later I was on the way home with 20 day temporary plates on my new Passat.
I didn't really think about modding it much until I tripped over some of the vw enthusiast sites. While browsing I found some Passat enthusiast sites and then it all began. Started with the K&N panel filter, then the S2k antenna and the list grows. I purchased a GIAC chip which smoothed out the performance of the 30v engine but didn't give me the kick in the pants I was lookin' for. I read about all the performance mods for the 20v 1.8t and thought that I was left out but then I found PES (Performance Engineered Systems). PES offers a custom supercharger kit for the 30v increasing crank hp to 295!!! Hmmmm that's more like it. I've been supercharged for about 10k miles and love every bit of it. All my mods are very subtle with the exception of the supercharger. I love the clean look of the Passat and I wanted something that can be appreciated by all (most of all myself).
Upcoming engine performance tweaks will include some form of water/meth injection and a possible intercooler. A nice wheel and tire package is on the agenda for next year. Last but not least I plan to upgrade the speakers and add alil' thump.
